Recent work by Simon Klein in painting, gouache, watercolour, and drawing
I love the way paint is colour as well as materiality. These images are made with oil paint, oil stick and occasionally charcoal on canvas and gesso boards. The paintings are created and adapted from drawings. Occasionally, I rework a painting from a drawing of the work itself. I like to think I am reaching into my imagination with a stick of charcoal. I follow suggestions of colour and mark as directly as possible. The drawings and paintings create their own critical boundaries, through which they get refined.
